Here's an Idea...

Why doesn't the States build an indoor swimming pool and gym at the campsite?!  After all they seem hell bent on wasting our tax payers' money!

  1. Whilst I realise that this is a jocular question, I feel it deserves a serious reply.
To build a 25 metre indoor pool and gym at any green field location on the island would cost around £1m.
By using the existing school pool changing rooms, toilets and showers and going into partnership with the Dept. of Education it will cost Alderney considerably less than £400,000 capital cost and be self sufficient in terms of running costs.
Surely a no-brainer for anyone who loves our island and cares about our children, handicapped, post-operative patients, tourism industry and the health and well being of all our population.
See www.swimalderney.org for details or talk to me if you have any misgivings

  2. I find it staggering that there are people who think that the States paying out for a pool is a better idea than perhaps helping fund volunteer services like the local fire and ambulance services.
I find it staggering that the island is dying on its feet yet a 3 lane bath is seen as the answer.
One too many 'er's in the no brainer statement.

  3. I can't believe that £300,000 has been spent developing a place that only took £270 from fees last summer! And they want to pump more money into it? Why not sort out the town and the terrible looking areas around the island so people actually have an incentive to come here first? Who is going to come on holiday here only to find no shops and that the town is dead every day of the week? These things need to be addressed before spending ridiculous amounts of money at that dump.

  6. I believe we need a gym and a pool, there are a lot of people on this island that believes being fit is good but there are no ficiltiesn espcially in the winter. People dont tell me to go to church so I wont tell you to use a gym but there are plenty of churches on the island so why not a gym. Regarding the camp site I dont think people are looking at the big picture. Okay the camp site will not generate the money back that has been spent on it for a long time but people that come here to camp site will pass on good news about the camp site, enticing more people onto the island meaning more money being spent on the island. People eat people use other entertaining places not just the camp site.Plus not forgetting the cost to get here it is all monies to thje island. Lets start to think outside the box.
