Who was it that said "The natives are revolting"? Well this one certainly is!!
This is Nigel's blog for airing concerns about current issues on Alderney, and he invites you to comment too. Add your own thoughts be they humorous, insulting, satirical, critical or even full of praise. This is your chance to join the revolution!
Alderney Week
Alderney Week 2012 - the madness has already started
amazing, budget of £10,000 and brings in over a million a year to the Island. goes to show you what a great bunch of volunteers and great idea can do for our Island, what would be the result if it was run by the Public sector......probably take place in November !
Well that's it folks, for another year at least, but what an amazing week it's been. Far too many events to mention but all a huge success and I 'm sure we all had our favourites. My personal favourite has to be the ad "Is this the way to run an island". Written, directed, starring and filmed (very clever) by our very own hugely talented local actor Mr. Lee Terrance Flewitt. Take it from me LTF you are going places! That John Wayne block in "True Grit" hasn't got a patch on you. Can I please have your autograph?
Nigel we thought your contribution to Island humour where you brilliantly portrayed a grumpy old man driving a van is worthy of Oscar nomination next year -how did you so convincingly portray this role-was it method acting.Shame you didnt say "i feel a blog coming on"
I personally think its amazing what a group of people can do for the island and attracting so many visitors. Yes, they are annoying walking in the road etc...but its good for the island. Over 100 events are put on in just a week, the population goes crazy and everyone enjoys it year after year. I think the Alderney Week team really need a lot more praise than they get for the amount of effort and work that goes into it. I think the Island and the states needs to wake up and realize that things like this, put on by volunteers really do work in making the island fun and desirable for families or anyone to come to. For the younger generation, the Bunker and Quarry parties play a massive role in them coming over. Both forms of party are extremely unique and offer a real underground ravey feel to them, the effort put in by both groups is completely faltless. I enjoy the first quarry but the second one always blows me away. The Bunker parties were the best I had been to in years, you can really tell a lot of effort has been put in this time around. Aside from the parties, all of the events are brilliant and really well put together, well done Alderney.
Wishing all involved the very best of luck.
